Citation

On this page you will find a map of the resources available on this site regarding citation

What is citation?

Citation is when an author takes the words or ideas of another author, and uses it in their own writing. A citation is done to show the reader:

  1. That another author wrote the words

  2. How to find the original source of the words

There are many different styles of citations. Academic disciplines (History, Maths, Science, English, etc.) all use different styles. In the academic discipline of English Language Arts, as well as in High School in general, the citation format used is developed by The Modern Language Association, or MLA.

Here you will find the basics of citation. Inside you will find information about in-text citations, the two types of citation, and making citations grammatically correct.
